GA4 & Google Tag Manager

Matomo is my main focus, but many websites use Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager, often alongside Matomo or before a switch. I review existing setups, clean up containers and implement tracking properly. Knowing both worlds makes it quicker to see where numbers diverge and why.

How I work

  1. 01Review GA4 property and GTM container
  2. 02Assess data quality and consent implementation
  3. 03Set up tags, triggers and events properly
  4. 04Document and hand over to your team

What I take on in GA4 and the tag manager

  • Audit: GA4 property with data streams, events, conversions and retention, GTM container with tags, triggers, variables and naming
  • Tracking implementation: events, e-commerce, forms and campaigns, clearly named and documented
  • Consent: checking consent banner, tags and actual behaviour on the website against each other
  • Parallel operation and switching: GA4 and Matomo side by side, measurement concept transferred, differences explained

Result

You get a report with findings and an action plan with priorities and owners, just like the Matomo audit. If you like, I implement the actions directly in the container.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you also help with switching from GA4 to Matomo?

Yes. Both systems often run in parallel for a while. I transfer the measurement concept, events and goals so the numbers stay comparable, and support the switch until the old setup is turned off.

Can you control GA4 and Matomo from one tag manager?

Yes. Both systems can be fed from Google Tag Manager or Matomo Tag Manager. Which way fits depends on consent, privacy requirements and your team.
