Dashboards & reporting
Matomo collects plenty of data, but decisions only come from reports someone reads. Together with your team I define the metrics, build dashboards for each audience, set up email reports and connect Power BI or Looker Studio where needed. From the monthly report for management to the annual or foundation report.
How I work
- 01Clarify questions and metrics for each audience
- 02Agree goals, segments and definitions
- 03Set up dashboards and email reports
- 04Train the team and review reports regularly
Metrics that support decisions
It starts with the questions: what does management want to know every month, marketing every week, the editorial team? These turn into a few clearly defined metrics, and only those go on the dashboard.
Dashboards for each audience
- Management a few metrics compared month by month, with goals and trends
- Marketing channels, campaigns and conversions
- Editorial content, search and entry pages
- Tech tracking quality, errors and outages
Email reports and shared dashboards
Matomo sends selected reports regularly as PDF, HTML or CSV. Dashboards can be shared read-only, even with people who have no account of their own. That way the numbers reach the people who read them.
Reports with obligations
For annual reports, foundation reports or reports to boards I define the metrics in advance, make sure the data is clean and build analyses that can be produced the same way every year.
Power BI and Looker Studio
Where web data should come together with CRM, shop or finance data, I connect Matomo to your BI tool via the Reporting API or exports. The metrics stay the same as in Matomo.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can we share dashboards with people who have no Matomo access?
Yes, read-only, for example with management or partners. You decide which numbers are visible.
Which reports does Matomo send by email?
Selected reports as PDF, HTML or CSV, daily, weekly or monthly, for a specific segment if you like.
Do we need Power BI or Looker Studio?
Not necessarily. Matomo answers many questions itself with dashboards, segments and email reports. A BI tool pays off when web data should come together with CRM, shop or finance data.
How do numbers stay comparable over the years?
With fixed definitions for goals, channels and metrics, and with annotations in Matomo whenever something changes, for example a relaunch or a new consent tool.
